Ad Astra Movie Review Critique This is a great review of James Gray’s Ad Astra- the physics and overall concepts are complete bogus, for lack of a better word. On one hand, the film effectively safeguards the space drama from the material science challenging swashbuckling of George Lucas, establishing its story in the Apollo period and rousing our kept an eye on spaceflight in a creative mind. On the other, it is only the most recent case of one of those harvest time films where an appealing man gazes out of a window and contemplates his dear old father. The thing that matters is that in this motion picture, rather than spotting falling leaves and raindrops, he spies Mars in close-up. NASA has been preparing for the next asteroid that will potentially hit Earth for a few years now. The particular project they are developing right now is called the Asteroid Redirect Mission, or “ARM.” In the plan for this multi-step project, NASA is developing the first robotic mission ever, to visit an asteroid near earth, collect samples of boulders, and redirect the asteroid into a stable orbit around the moon. Eventually, they plan to have humans go out and do these missions, but predict that will only happen in the 2030s, or so. NASA’s goal is to find an asteroid that could be redirected to the lunar orbit in the 2020s, but have yet to choose a candidate, and let me just add they are choosing a candidate out of over 1000 discovered near-Earth asteroids. The scientists also believe that more will be discovered in the coming years. The way they will choose their candidate is by studying the different asteroids’ velocities, orbits, sizes, and spins. Movie: Eraser Rail gun: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ydUmiYG7Njs 1:03 There is a lot wrong with the House Attack Scene in Eraser in terms of the use of the ray gun. According to the law of conservation of momentum, the total momentum of two objects acting upon one another will not change (unless there is an external force, which I am assuming there is not in this case). When the attacker shoots the ray gun at the characters in the house, it is moving at a much slower rate than the rate the victim moves when the ray hits him. He went flying very fast and forcefully; He literally busted a hole through the wall. Because of this, the directors of the movie seem to completely disregard the law, making the scene pretty much impossible. The ISMP movie physics rating is RP- it is very poorly done, but not as badly done as some other movies.
